Performance

The ASUS PRIME H610M-E D4 offers reliable performance without unnecessary extras. With PCIe 4.0 support, dual M.2 slots, dual-channel DDR4 memory, and compatibility with Intel's latest LGA 1700 processors, it delivers excellent value for budget and mid-range PC builds.

Dual M.2 Slots

Having two M.2 slots is one of its biggest advantages. One SSD can be used for Windows while the second slot remains available for future storage upgrades.

The Only Downside

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Spectrum V3 ARGB cooler doesn't have enough clearance to mount its fan in the standard position. The fan had to be installed on the opposite side of the heatsink, though cooling performance remains excellent.

Final Verdict

Budget 1080p Gaming PC Build: Intel Core i5-14400F & RTX 4060

Performance

This build has been excellent for 1080p gaming. The Intel Core i5-14400F and RTX 4060 make a balanced combination that handles modern AAA games, multitasking, gameplay recording, and everyday productivity with ease.

The Hyper 212 cooler keeps CPU temperatures under control, while the Ant Esports Elite 1100 cabinet provides good airflow for long gaming sessions.

Another advantage is NVIDIA NVENC, which allows high-quality gameplay recording with minimal impact on gaming performance.

What I'd Choose Today

Although I'm satisfied with this build, there are a few changes I'd make if I were building a new PC today.

32GB RAM

I'd start with 32GB of RAM instead of 16GB. It offers more headroom for modern games, multitasking, and content creation.

RTX 5060

The RTX 4060 remains an excellent GPU for 1080p gaming. However, if buying today, I'd choose the RTX 5060 for its newer architecture and better long-term value.

1440p Monitor

My Dell 200Hz Full HD monitor pairs perfectly with the RTX 4060 for fast and smooth 1080p gaming. If upgrading to an RTX 5060, I'd also choose a 1440p monitor to take advantage of the additional graphics performance and sharper visuals.

Final Thoughts

I'm very happy with this gaming PC. It delivers excellent 1080p performance, efficient cooling, and smooth gameplay recording. If I were building a new system today, I'd simply increase the RAM to 32GB, choose an RTX 5060, and pair it with a 1440p monitor for an even better overall experience.

From Budget Gaming PC to Mid-Range Performer: An Upgrade Journey

PC Configuration - Computer Hardware - Windows PC Solutions


A budget gaming PC is often the best starting point for PC gamers. It delivers solid performance without a huge investment and provides room for future upgrades.

That was the original goal for this build—a cost-effective system capable of handling modern games at 1080p.

For a while, it did exactly that.

As newer games became more demanding and gaming habits changed, it became clear that the original hardware would eventually need improvements. What started as an entry-level gaming PC gradually evolved into a much more capable mid-range machine.

The Original Hardware

The initial build consisted of:

  • Intel Core i3-12100F
  • AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT
  • 16GB DDR4 Memory
  • Budget microATX cabinet

The Core i3-12100F proved to be an impressive budget processor, while the RX 6500 XT delivered 1080p gaming performance in many popular titles.

For esports games and lighter workloads, the system performed well.

However, newer AAA games quickly exposed the limitations of the hardware.

When Gaming Became More Demanding

Titles like Battlefield 2042 pushed the system much harder than expected.

Large multiplayer battles, frequent explosions, smoke effects, and high player counts increased both CPU and GPU workload. While the game remained playable, performance wasn't always consistent during the most demanding moments.

Long gaming sessions introduced another problem.

Airflow Can Be Just as Important as Hardware

Unexpected shutdowns began occurring after extended gameplay.

After investigating the issue, the cause became obvious.

The compact cabinet restricted airflow, allowing heat to accumulate inside the case. As internal temperatures increased, system stability suffered.

Replacing the case with the Ant Esports Elite 1100 E-Series significantly improved airflow, helping the components operate at lower temperatures and making long gaming sessions much more stable.

This upgrade demonstrated that a well-ventilated case can be just as valuable as upgrading individual components.

Limitation of the RX 6500 XT

Gaming performance wasn't the only concern.

Recording gameplay also became an important part of using the PC.

Although the RX 6500 XT handled gaming reasonably well, it wasn't ideal for content creation. Since the processor was an Intel "F" series model without integrated graphics, there was no Quick Sync encoder available. At the same time, the RX 6500 XT couldn't match the recording quality and efficiency offered by NVIDIA's NVENC encoder.

For users who want to game while recording or streaming, this combination presents noticeable limitations.

Upgrading to the RTX 4060

Replacing the graphics card with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 transformed the overall experience.

The improvements were noticeable immediately.

Gaming performance became smoother, frame delivery felt more consistent, and gameplay recordings looked much cleaner thanks to NVIDIA's latest NVENC encoder. Thermal performance also improved, making the system quieter and more reliable during long gaming sessions.

A single GPU upgrade solved several issues at once.

The CPU Eventually Became the Bottleneck

After the graphics upgrade, Battlefield 6 became the next challenge.

Initially, the Core i3-12100F handled the game surprisingly well. As additional game updates arrived, however, CPU utilization steadily increased.

During gameplay, processor usage often remained between 80% and 90%. Installing new NVIDIA graphics drivers also meant waiting for lengthy shader compilation, with CPU usage frequently reaching nearly full utilization.

The graphics card still had room to perform, but the processor had become the limiting factor.

Moving to the Intel Core i5-14400F

The final upgrade was replacing the Core i3-12100F with the Intel Core i5-14400F.

With 10 cores and 16 threads, the system gained significantly more processing power.

Shader compilation completed much faster, multitasking became effortless, and gaming no longer pushed CPU utilization close to its limits. Background applications could remain open without affecting gameplay, creating a noticeably smoother overall experience.

The system finally reached a well-balanced configuration where both the processor and graphics card complemented each other.
